From #NZ 2 #Hawaii 2 Easy

Isn’t it a nuisance when your day job gets in the way of the fun things that you want to do! This is certainly the case with me keeping up with this Blog…Guilty as charged BUT we have managed to slip a 3 week holiday to Hawaii (Oahu & Maui) into the gap.

John & I try to travel around April/May each year as we have passed the first 1/4 of the year in the business and with a sharp eye on the horizon can step away for some R&R. This year we decided on Hawaii. It had been 20 years since John had been there and for me it was all new. It was just far to easy..only 8 hours on Air New Zealand. Just enough time for lunch and a quick read of the dusty Kindle..From a dull day in Auckland to a balmy summer night in Hawaii whats not to like about that!

And ‘Like’ it we did…Sun, Beach, Shopping, an abundance of food and sun did I mention the sun….Dish me up that Vitamin D will you please.

We rented a 1 bed (with kitchen – did I cook..Umm not really) Condo in a well secured high-rise in Waikiki. Perfect spot for easy access to elegant shopping and a sweet spot on the beach in front of The Royal Hawaiianalso the perfect spot to have the best Maitai and watch the Aha’aina Luau.

Our daily run sheet – Coffee at Vintage Island Coffee (along with many Kiwis & Aussies who can sniff a good roast anywhere ) Sunbathing until we got hungry – Lunch – a meander back via shops …Hot shower – oh more shopping – early dinner (far to many choices)  – late night wander around the shops (again)..deep restful slumber…and then the sun rose on another glorious day.

In case you’re wondering John is very happy to shop when on holiday – never when at home so I make darn good use of his time when we are away. Seriously tho we did do Tourist stuff..walked Diamond Head , spent several hours at Pearl Harbor and rented a car for 2 days to transverse the Nuʻuanu Pali and skip around the Oahu North shore so I could photograph surfers and eat at the food trucks or buy fresh Pineapple at the roadside stalls. We stopped in at Kualoa Nursery and Gardens to sample Macadamia and enjoy the scenery where many top movies were shot.

Hawaii is nothing short of awesome..and next time (you bet there will be a next time)..we will rent a car and visit other hidden spots on Oahu that we didn’t quite make it to this time…The people, the scenery, the weather and the history is captivating!
