#Graffiti -Tattoos on a wall

I really love street art or graffiti….is it art?…or is it just plain vandalism..possibly!

What ever way you choose to look at it..it is there in every city in the world. My husband will attest to my fascination and his patience when we travel. I will stop the bus to grab an image ..and I have asked him to turn around and retrace steps so I can get a better shot. What is it that I like?..well the bravery of the individuals who manage to tag a building in places that most of us wouldn’t bother climbing up, and the underlying message, if you take the time to understand, gives a city its voice.

Yes there can be a difference between tagging and good street art but either way its the unique fingerprint of the artist and the thought-provoking image that will draw the viewer’s eye.

I absolutely love Hoiser lane in Melbourne Australia. I visit every time and it never fails in its unique, living, breathing montage of imagery. I have 3 years of photos that depict its changing skin and every time I go I find another gem. It’s a must see on a trip to Melbourne …and easily located off Flinders Lane. In fact Melbourne is a unique hub of some of the best street art in Australia if not the world…I just need to keep travelling the world to find comparisons!

Street Artist Adnate is one of my favourites……

Travelling in Panama the street art was more directed at political conversation. In LA on Venice Beach they have walls especially for artists to do their stuff.

My daughter travelled through Europe this year and some of her pics of the John Lennon Wall were fantastic.

As for meeting Banksy..well that would have to be on my bucket list – just wish I had been in NY when his work was sold on a street corner for next to nothing!

And that reminds me I really do need to get out and get some NZ images..Here is a quick taste from Kawakawa….but watch this space!
